National motorcyclist campaign against experienced nuisance

Partly due to the relative corona silence, motorcyclists stood out extra in the past year. Especially on beautiful weekends, there were invariably complaints about the sound produced. It is important that the nuisance is initially caused by a small group of motorcyclists who produce unnecessary noise by driving too fast or too high, by using an exhaust that is not approved for their motorcycle, removing the so-called dB-killer or a combination of these factors.

Space

The irritation generated by this group is reflected in the large group of motorcyclists who adhere to all traffic and behavioral rules on motorcycles that meet all requirements. Banners with a suggested, but technically impossible, maximum noise production of 70dB legitimize feelings of unrest among local residents, further fueled by underlying organizations that aim for a growing number of road closures exclusively for motorcyclists. That's not the way. Motorcyclists deserve the space, just like everyone else.

Everyone your neighbor

Where opponents of engine noise struggle with half-truths and unreal ambitions, motorcyclists in the Netherlands opt for awareness and cooperation. This is what the collected motorcycle media and motorcyclists' organizations do in the campaign TOO LOUD IS OUT. The signatories of the underlying covenant undertake to ask their supporters to take their environment into account. When you are at home, you consider your neighbors. Everyone is your neighbor on a motorcycle.

Very motorcycling Netherlands

With the more than twenty parties that have signed the covenant, the whole of motorcyclists in the Netherlands are being reached via print, websites and social media. In order to point out the importance of the campaign to motorcyclists not only in their own media but also along the road, the logo is immediately made available free of charge to Dutch municipalities and other road authorities. A call for this is on www.teluidisuit.nl, but these authorities will also be approached directly. In addition, all Dutch motorcycle clubs will soon receive a request to share the campaign with their members.

Enforcement

The campaign will be presented to the national government shortly. In this context, it is urged that enforcement is aimed at the small group that causes the actual nuisance, and that a national campaign is put in place to positively draw attention to motorcycling. A Leuven study commissioned by FEBIAC previously showed that the number of lost traffic hours could decrease by 40% if 10% of motorists chose a motorcycle, excluding a significant emission reduction.

The parties

The number of motorcyclists screwing the dB killers back into the exhausts is increasing. The demand for quieter exhausts is increasing. Motorcyclists are becoming more and more aware of what is going on. With this campaign, we want to accelerate that process, together with six of the largest motorcycle magazines, the national motorcycle associations MAG and KNMV, motorcycle rental platform MotoShare, the Landelijk Overleg Orgaan Toerclubs, the Trans Euro Trail, FEHAC, online motorcycle media and other parties. The RAI Association of the Motors Section is very supportive of the campaign.
