At travel operator TUI, the country is by far the most popular destination, yet many tour operators cancel or consider doing so. This has everything to do with the rapidly increasing infections in Spain and the role of the discotheques in it. Spain had to become the travel destination for young people who are looking for sun, sea and party this summer, and who want to forget about corona. One of the destinations was the popular resort of Lloret de Mar, on the Costa Brava in the Catalonia region. But that will apply as a red zone from Wednesday, because the infections are rising quickly.

The dream of many young people to forget the corona misery of the past year while partying in Spain seems to have passed. Travel organization Youth Travel decided to suspend all departures to Spain until at least the end of July. In the meantime, travel organization Summer Bash, which currently has 300 young people on site in Lloret de Mar, also has the suspension on the table of all journeys that were yet to leave.

It is difficult to say exactly what role the discotheques play in the rising figures in Spain. A major outbreak on the island of Mallorca was traced back to partying teenagers, who came to celebrate the end of their university entrance exams. They created a perfect breeding ground for the virus, as they mixed with people from all over Spain and beyond, local health authorities said.

According to the Spanish newspaper, Health Minister Carolina Darias spoke of nearly 6.000 people spread across Spain who had to be quarantined as a result of the cluster of infections in Mallorca. In the meantime, under pressure from the worrying evolution, 30 to 40 percent of clubs in Barcelona have decided not to open from this week.
