A solution is needed to transport bicycles on the routes around Zwolle where there are currently no trains. That is what Rover and the Fietsersbond state in a message to NS. Many complaints are received about the lack of options for taking bicycles on the NS bus. Due to work on the track around Zwolle, train passengers will have to rely on buses instead of trains until 20 July. It is not possible to take a bicycle on the NS bus. This has unpleasant consequences for travelers who, for example, want to travel to and from the Wadden Islands by bicycle.

Carrying bicycles is always a problem when working on the track. However, Rover and the Fietsersbond see a particularly wry situation this time: there are no alternative routes for train traffic to/from the Northern Netherlands and the work will take place in the middle of the summer holidays. “We dare to say that Zwolle is normally the busiest 'bicycle in the train' junction in the Netherlands at this time of year,” the organizations say in a message to NS.

Rover and the Fietsersbond receive many complaints from travelers. For example, when asked, travelers are told by NS that they should cycle on the part where no trains are running, but this can cover a distance of up to 50 kilometres. Rover and the Fietsersbond therefore ask NS to use a coach with a bicycle trailer as an NS bus at least a few times a day.

solutions

According to one of the reactions of the train passengers, NS should only look at a country like the Czech Republic. If replacement bus transport is running on a route, they will have a van ride behind the bus, containing the bicycles. They can transport the (reserved) bicycles in a van via the reservation system. Another solution An excellent solution would be a coach with trailer as are often used on long distance journeys.
