The Italian airline Alitalia is no more. From red-white-green ash rises on October 15 Italia Trasporto Aereo, ITA. The European Commission and the Italian Ministry of Economic Development have reached an agreement on the future of Alitalia. Alitalia, formally Società Aerea Italiana SpA, was the flag carrier of Italy. The airline was part of the SkyTeam airline alliance.

Since October 10, 2020, Alitalia's activities have already been continued by Italia Trasporto Aereo SpA. The pandemic has shown the fragility of the aviation sector, many airlines, including Alitalia itself, have been kept afloat with public funds. According to calculations, the Italian government has pumped 70 billion euros into Alitalia since the mid-3,4s. Italy has been working on the successor to Alitalia since last year. The intention was that the new company would be operational in April of this year, but the Europa put a stop to that.

tickets

Current Alitalia customers who have tickets after October 15 will be offered an alternative. The last obstacle in the negotiations between Brussels and Rome had to do with tickets with a flight date after October 14, 2021. The European Commission wants the loss-making Alitalia to make a real break with the past and therefore banned the use of the name Alitalia on the airline tickets. The Italian government is now making XNUMX million available to reimburse the tickets.

order

Airline ITA, the successor to Alitalia, is now close to a large order for new aircraft. The order should be split between Airbus and Boeing, reports the Italian newspaper Corriere della Sera. According to the plans, the new airline will have 105 aircraft by then, more than double what it has now. However, jobs are disappearing because of the current 11.000 employees, about 2800 will be hired by ITA this year.
