At Amsterdam Airport Schiphol, costs rose by 22%. Schiphol is now one of the most expensive airports in Europe, certainly based on the price per kilometre. And yet, in Europe, taxis are more popular than ever due to the corona crisis. This is the result of higher rental car prices and a reduced sense of safety in public transport, which is causing the same corona crisis. In their Airport Taxi Report Summer 2021 also compared the rates of the taxis at the 50 busiest European airports. For a single ride between Schiphol and Amsterdam you pay 55 euros, from Brussels center to the airport you pay 45 euros, which is slightly more expensive than the European average, which is 41 euros. Expensive rental cars and public transport are currently avoided.

“That seems like a lot of money, but the prices for a train ticket to the center of Brussels are respectively 9,10 euros (2nd class) / 10,20 euros (1st class). For a group of four people, a door-to-door taxi is a very interesting alternative”

Vliegveldinfo.nl is the largest airport information website in the Benelux, providing useful information about 500 airports worldwide, especially in Europe. This ensures that you are well prepared for your trip and that you know what to expect on both departure and arrival. For taxi companies, the increasing demand from holidaymakers is just right, they can now partly make up for the lack of business customers with the growing demand from travelers and tourists.

Airport Taxi Report Summer 2021

2020 was a disaster year for rental car providers. Because there was hardly any demand, suppliers were forced to sell part of the fleet. Now a year later, this is causing problems, because the demand is now greater than the supply of rental cars. Moreover, due to the worldwide chip shortage, relatively few new cars are coming onto the market. The result is clear, because of the scarcity, renting a car is much more expensive than usual.

Airportinfo.nl every six months, in summer and winter, it compares taxi fares at the 50 busiest airports in Europe. The comparison is based on the fare and price per kilometer, the focus may differ. For airports that are located close to the center, the fare is a more favorable comparison, the prices are lower because fewer kilometers have to be made. For airports further from the center, the price per kilometer is a more favorable comparison, because the price per kilometer decreases as the distance increases. The report was not published in the summer of 2020 and the winter of 2021 due to the corona crisis.

Public transport too crowded

Even though things are slowly moving in the right direction in Europe, some people are still hesitant to move in large groups or to be close to other people. Public transport can create an unsafe feeling and is therefore still avoided by some of the travelers. A taxi ride is more expensive than a ride on public transport, but (the sense of) safety is more often than before the cost.
