Campers and caravans are probably still everywhere in the neighborhoods. If you have a lot of space in front of the door or in your yard, it might seem useful to park your caravan here. Unfortunately, this is often not allowed for a longer period of time. In most municipalities, your caravan may be on the public road for a maximum of three consecutive days. There are also rules attached to a caravan in your own yard or driveway. For example, a municipality can demand that this is only allowed if the caravan is not visible from the road. Corona has boosted the caravan and motorhome trade. In the past year Bovag saw a huge increase in sales and now the problem may be that the storage is lagging behind the previous sales figures. Keep that in mind when looking for winter storage.

big cleaning

The big cleaning is often one of the last jobs that the owner has to perform before the holiday home on wheels goes into storage. But where do you keep those things until after the winter? For some, the showpiece remains in one of the parking spaces in the street, but that is of course not entirely the intention. The caravan shed is then usually the only solution to store everything safely for the winter. You will find the rules for parking your caravan in the General Local Regulation (APV) of your municipality. Good to find out beforehand.

Also pay attention to the conditions when you are looking for a parking space for the caravan, folding trailer or motorhome. But what should you keep in mind when looking for suitable winter storage and how do you prepare your caravan for it?

stabling

Outdoor storage is often cheaper and therefore appears to be a good choice. However, there are also drawbacks. If your caravan is outside, there is usually no roof. Your caravan is therefore less well protected against weather influences such as rain, hail, snow or the bright sun. Damages as a result of slow-acting weather influences are unfortunately not reimbursed by a folding trailer insurance. The caravan also gets dirty faster outside, for example due to (fine) dust and bird droppings. A covered indoor parking protects your caravan better and is therefore a better choice.

preparation

Clean the caravan inside and out. Also the toilet, the waste tank and leftover food. This way you prevent unpleasant odors and pests. Drain and dry the toilet's clean water tank and water tank. Drain the water pipe and the boiler. Blow dry the pipes to prevent freezing and mold. Put your door seals in the talcum powder. Lubricate other rubbers with Vaseline to prevent drying out. Check your caravan for damage. Have minor damage repaired immediately. This prevents minor damage from developing into major damage due to moisture and frost.

Damages as a result of slow-acting weather influences are unfortunately not reimbursed by most insurers. Let your awning or awning dry thoroughly before you put it away. Check whether pests can find entrances in the bodywork. Even the smallest hole can be enough. Close it as much as possible. Remove the battery from the caravan mover. This way you can keep track of the condition of your battery during the winter. Do you want to prevent the tires from getting a flat spot from standing still for a long time? Then inflate the tires 0,2 to 0,5 bar harder than prescribed. Remove the gas bottles from your caravan and cover the gas pressure regulator with a bag.

insurance

Although you may have done everything you can, sometimes damage does occur during winter storage. You usually only discover this when you remove the caravan. Immediately caravan insurance from OHRA your caravan is insured all year round and many damages, also in winter storage, are insured. Good luck finding a suitable winter storage for your caravan.
