No less than 56 percent of all Dutch people think the Zandvoort Grand Prix does not fit within the current climate policy. That appears from research of Acties.nl among 1.059 adult Dutch people, performed by PanelWizard. Almost three quarters of all respondents therefore stated that the organization behind the car race should be obliged to invest part of the proceeds in the climate.

Remarkably enough, residents of Drenthe (74 percent) and Overijsselaars (65 percent) find the race of next Sunday incompatible with Dutch climate legislation. With only 45 percent, Limburgers are least concerned about this.

“Despite Max Verstappen's recent performance in Formula 1, it seems that a majority of those polled no longer think the Dutch Grand Prix is up to date. Even as a fan of the sport, I do not see the absolute necessity of a car race in the middle of the dunes.”

Prince Bernhard

In addition to the impact on the climate, many Dutch people are also unhappy about the transport plans surrounding the Grand Prix of Zandvoort. Despite the corona measures, 43 spectators a day will come to the circuit this weekend, almost half of them by public transport, bicycle or on foot. However, according to the majority of all respondents, this prognosis is far too rosy. Perhaps partly because of this, a third of all Dutch people expect the race weekend to end in disappointment. According to 74 percent of respondents, the only reason why the race takes place is Prince Bernhard's business involvement. Remarkably enough, especially Groningen (74 percent) and Drenthe (XNUMX percent) are convinced of this. Frank: “I especially remember the long traffic jams to and from the circuit. From that perspective, I understand that many Dutch people find the transport plans far too optimistic. Unfortunately, we'll have to wait a few more days to see exactly how it plays out."

Move

Due to the rosy mobility plans, business involvement of Prince Bernhard and the attack on the environment, no less than a third of all respondents think that the Dutch Grand Prix should be moved to Assen. With 69 percent, residents of Drenthe are the biggest supporters, but 29 percent of North Hollanders are also in favor of a relocation of the Formula 1 circus. Frank: “For a long time it was exciting which of the two circuits was allowed to organize the car race. I understand that as a resident of Drenthe you are really disappointed when it passes you by, but that should never be at the expense of the love for the sport."
