Traveling we had to wait a long time for it, but luckily it has been possible for a while, but that has been different for months. However, there are different rules regarding entry per country. The European Commission reports that the Commission has recently published a report on the EU digital covid certificate and its application in the EU. The digital EU covid certificate is digital proof that someone has been vaccinated against Covid-19, tested negative for corona or has recovered from Covid-19. The certificate is digital and/or on paper, it has a QR code, it is free, available in the national language and in English, it is safe and reliable and valid in all EU countries.

The certificate facilitates travel within the EU and has been instrumental in Europe's response to the COVID-19 pandemic and in supporting the hard-hit tourism sector. The certificate is a success, it is used in 43 countries, of which 27 are EU Member States, 3 countries of the European Economic Area (EEA), Switzerland and 12 other countries, with more countries to come. In the Netherlands, the digital EU covid certificate goes through the coronacheck app.

The aviation sector has benefited immensely from the EU covid certificate which was just ready for the rush of last summer season. Airpoirts Council International Association (ACI Europe) says passenger numbers doubled in July 2021 from July of last year. According to them, this is due to the relaxation of travel restrictions and the roll-out of the digital EU covid certificate. A survey by the European Parliament shows that 65 percent of respondents believe the certificate is the safest way to travel freely during the COVID-19 pandemic in Europe.
