More and more bicycles are being added to our cycling country and they also have to be parked somewhere. In many places in the Netherlands there are too few parking facilities where you can park your bicycle. In large cities you often see nuisance from parked bicycles on the sidewalk or in passageways. A complete chaos that is an eyesore for many people. Recently, the largest municipal bicycle shed in the city center on the Lange Viestraat in Utrecht was festively opened. Traffic alderman Lot van Hooijdonk of Groen Links has opened bicycle shed House Modernes.

The municipality of Utrecht wants to prevent bicycle parking in the wild and is therefore trying to realize as many safe bicycle sheds as possible. The bicycle shed is located under the building of House Moderns. This building has been completely renovated and is a mix of offices, retail and catering. The large bicycle shed in the middle of the center between the shops has space for 900 bicycles.

Cargo bikes and bicycles with a crate at the front or back can also be parked in this bicycle shed, most bicycle sheds do not have space for this. You can see on a digital referral system at the entrance of the bicycle shed whether there is still room and how many places are still available. You can also rent a buggy there, which is handy if you forgot your own and don't want to carry your child all day. Parking is free for the first 24 hours and the garage has varying opening times. On Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday the parking facility is open from 7:00 AM to 01:00 AM. On Thursday from 7:00 AM to 0:00 AM and on Friday, Saturday and Sunday 24 hours a day.
