This autumn, the ANWB is calling attention to good and safe bicycle lighting for the tenth time in a row. Cyclists are vulnerable in traffic, especially children. Without light, they are poorly visible to other road users and they run a greater risk of an accident. With the 'Turn on your light' campaign, the ANWB wants to help cyclists safely through the dark months.

Dutch children do quite well when it comes to bicycle lighting, according to ANWB research (This concerns a representative sample of 1349 Dutch children between the ages of 7 and 17, conducted by research agency Ruigrok NetPanel). n 88% of the children who sometimes cycle in the dark indicate that they always have their lights on when they cycle in the dark. About 12% indicate that they do not always do this. That equates to about 250.000 children in the Netherlands. In most cases they have no light on because their lamp is broken (52%) or because they simply forget to switch on their bicycle lights (48%). That's why the ANWB is coming back in in action.

To remind children and students to turn on their bicycle lights, tags with the text 'Turn on your light' will be placed on the bike paths by a special tag team across the country. In addition, almost 4.000 community officers of the National Police are participating in the action. The ANWB calls on everyone to help out and pick up a tag package at one of the 77 ANWB shops. That package contains a template and an aerosol with environmentally friendly spray paint with which the tags can be applied. The promotion lasts until November 14.
