The Municipality of The Hague has published a taxi tender stating that hydrogen is not 'green' enough, so that driving with hydrogen taxis is not encouraged. According to the municipality, driving on (grey) electricity is sustainable. BP Kerkhof and OG (OrangeGas), who have a hydrogen filling station in The Hague, are making themselves heard. huh2Platform is surprised by the decision of the municipality of The Hague to join the taxi tender 'target group transport', exclude hydrogen. The municipality states that hydrogen is not 'green' enough. This is substantively incorrect and incomprehensible to the platform.

Betamax among the fuels

The youngsters among us will probably think: “what are they talking about”. Betamax competed with Video 2000 and VHS for the standard for video recorders in the 6s. That battle was won by VHS at the time. As it looks now, it seems to be heading in the same direction with hydrogen. Euro XNUMX, electric or hydrogen. There is a lot of talk about electric transport as a sustainable alternative to diesel or petrol, but driving on hydrogen is also on the rise. The big question is who will win this battle in the coming years. Hydrogen is in fact not a fuel but an energy carrier. The cars refuel hydrogen, which is converted into electrical energy in the vehicle by a so-called fuel cell.

H2Platform supports BP Kerkhof and Orangegas die have resisted against excluding hydrogen in the new tender and is happy to enter into discussions with the municipality of The Hague. On August 3, 2021, the municipality published the European public tender “Harmonization Target Group Transport The Hague”. The assignment will commence on 1 August 2022 and has a contract duration of at least 6 years and a maximum of 8 years. On sustainability, the taxi companies can earn extra points by registering exclusively with plug-in electric vehicles. Hydrogen vehicles and other clean fuels are banned under the guise of 'not green enough'. There are currently 70 hydrogen taxis in operation in the Netherlands.
