BOVAG is pleased that the coalition agreement states that a start is being made with the introduction of car tax based on use, instead of on ownership. BOVAG has been advocating this for years. Last March with an alternative car tax plan together with ANWB, RAI, VNA and Natuur & Milieu.

"The taboo is gone! That is good and that is necessary: the current car tax system is unsustainable, unfair and inhibits greening."

Ten Broeke explains that the mobility sector must also contribute to achieving the climate goals. “Paying according to use – a rate per kilometer based on the environmental characteristics of the vehicle – can help with this. But with one hard condition: paying according to use comes instead of paying for possession, it is not on top of that!”

In the near future, BOVAG would like to think along about the concrete implementation of the principle of payment according to use. Incidentally, more needs to be done with car taxes in the short term than just starting to pay according to use. A complete, comprehensive and calculated plan for this can be found here: www.toekomstautotaxen.nl
