About 8 in 10 Dutch people plan to go on holiday next year. This is apparent from a large representative study by the ANWB. A large part of holidaymakers take the corona into account when making their travel plans. For example, a majority expect to celebrate their holiday close to home and to stay in the Netherlands or Europe.

Holidays remain important for the Dutch. Eight in ten plan to go on holiday at least once in 2022. The enthusiasm is greatest among young people (92%) and lowest among the elderly (72%).

The local corona measures also play a major role in choosing the holiday destination this year. In addition, the Dutch also look at the number of infections in the intended holiday country. They also think it is very important to cancel or rebook a trip free of charge. Holidaymakers are also price conscious and look for good deals.

The Netherlands is expected to be the most popular holiday destination this year, followed by Germany, France, Spain and Belgium. Favorites are the beach holiday, followed by a city trip abroad or a visit to a city in our own country. Distant destinations are less popular.

Holidaymakers who opt for a holiday in their own country (43%) are looking for both peace and quiet in nature and the hustle and bustle of a city. There is expected to be a lot of walking and shopping. Limburg, Gelderland, Drenthe and Zeeland are the most mentioned.

Camping is and remains popular. Almost one in four holidaymakers plans to go camping at least once in 2022. Small-scale campsites are particularly popular.
