Figures from BOVAG and Kampeer en Caravan Industrie (KCI) show that 11.646 new caravans and motorhomes were registered last year. That is the highest number since 2008 and 24,4 percent more than in 2020. Sales of new motorhomes reached a record level of 2021 units in 3.097, or 28,3 percent more than the year before. For the first time, more than 3.000 new motorhomes were delivered in a calendar year. The number of new caravans was 8.549 last year, which was 23 percent more than in 2020 and the highest level in the last 10 years. On January 1, 2021, a total of 576.427 caravans and motorhomes were registered in the Netherlands. That is more than 25.000 more than two years earlier, according to data from data supplier RDC. As a result of the corona measures at home and abroad, camping holidays have been popular since the outbreak of the pandemic, and the interest in caravans and motorhomes has also grown significantly.

The specialist trade sold 15.867 used caravans last year, almost 5 percent more than in 2020. 36.742 used caravans were traded between private individuals, which was almost 12 percent more than a year earlier. As a result, a total of 52.609 second-hand caravans changed hands, which was the highest number since 2009. Last year, for the first time, the demand for used campers from the specialist trade exceeded the sales of second-hand caravans. 17.210 motorhome used cars were sold to consumers, or more than 17,5 percent more than in 2020 and therefore the highest number ever. Trade in used motorhomes between private individuals was almost 2,5 percent higher, to a level of 19.756 transactions, according to the report. BOVAG.
