January is not the happiest month of the year, the days are gloomy and dark, it will take a while before the temperatures are a bit pleasant again and there is often no prospect of a holiday. It is 'normal' around these months to think about where we want to go on holiday in the spring or summer. If you look for a holiday early in the year, the offer is still enormous and there is often still room everywhere. But what is wisdom with regard to booking a holiday and corona? Do we dare to take the risk of booking a holiday now and may not be able to go later because there are other advice or because there is another corona outbreak somewhere. What should you pay attention to if you want to book a holiday around this time for the summer, for example? Nobody knows what the future will bring regarding corona, this week the travel advice for a certain country could be green or yellow and in 2 months it could be orange or red.

Always check it travel advice (from the central government) of your destination before you book, Green: you can travel. Yellow: you can travel but beware, there are risks. Orange: only necessary trips (no holiday trips). Red: do not travel. It is also very important that you take out good travel insurance or if you have a continuous travel insurance that you check very carefully what is actually insured. So read the fine print very carefully and possibly ask your insurance company or intermediary for advice on how and what with regard to corona and travel. Because you will only have booked one trip and just before departure you test positive for corona. Either you are on vacation and you get corona there or you have to quarantine unexpectedly.

The conditions for each insurer differ and many travel insurance policies no longer regard corona as an unforeseen circumstance. The consumer association also advises, for example, to book a package holiday with a travel organization. You are in a stronger position if you book a package holiday than if you arrange everything separately. For example, if there are unexpected problems during your trip, the travel organization must solve this. The consumer association also gives a tip to pay for a holiday with your credit card, most payments with a credit card can be reversed within a year, this is nice if your trip is cancelled. Also pay close attention to the rules the travel organizations use with regard to vouchers or refunds if the travel organization has to cancel the trip. This can also differ per travel organization, in the end you will get your money back, but this can take up to a year.
