Brussels Airport, together with more than 200 other airports from all over Europe, has signed the Toulouse Declaration; an important agreement that marks a new chapter in Europe's journey towards the target of net zero carbon for aviation by 2050. With this Toulouse Declaration, it is the first time that European governments, the European Commission, the business community, trade unions and others key stakeholders formally align for zero-carbon aviation.

The so-called “Toulouse Declaration”, launched on 4 February 2022 by the French EU presidency, is the first-ever public-private initiative to support the achievement of European aviation's target of zero CO2050 emissions by 2 . It is also the first joint initiative of its kind in the world that aligns all stakeholders in the European Union on the principles and actions needed to decarbonise and transform the European aviation sector, marking a real breakthrough.

Brussels Airport therefore fully supports the Declaration, which is an addition to its goal to achieve net zero carbon by 2050 at the latest. An ambitious target set out in the ACI EUROPE Resolution in June 2019. Together with ACI Europe and more than 200 other airports across Europe, Brussels Airport has now also signed the Toulouse Declaration.

"For more than ten years, Brussels Airport has been committed to significantly reducing its CO2 emissions. Brussels Airport has been CO2018 neutral according to the Airport Carbon Accreditation Program of ACI Europe since 2, and we are working hard to further reduce our emissions It is important that all stakeholders join forces to further green the aviation sector, and we are fully committed to playing our part in that."

“Every airport that signs this statement makes a tangible difference to our future as an industry, as an economy and as a society. They continue to demonstrate ambition, vision and excellence in their sustainable actions. I admire and praise each and every one of them.”

Brussels Airport is committed to achieving its goal by continuing to work on energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure, including renewable energy sources, the further electrification of its company vehicle fleet and ground handling equipment, improving the modal split and the use of public transport, initiatives on waste management and waste reduction , and through future projects on electric taxis and biofuels for aircraft.
