The new car program 'Geluk Op Wielen' helps motorists to reduce their fuel consumption and avoid unnecessary costs for maintenance and repair. This allows them to drive longer and more sustainably in their car. And a large group needs that. Almost half of the car owners appear to want to learn to use their car in a more environmentally friendly way. The first episode of Geluk Op Wielen can be seen on SBS5 on Saturday 15 March, around 30:6 PM. The repeat is on Sunday, around 11.30:XNUMX am.

In each episode of the program, a candidate asks a recognizable question about his or her car. On the basis of this, the viewer receives many practical tips and information. Meanwhile, the candidate's car knowledge and skills are increased through a do-it-yourself car check, driving test and a knowledge quiz. The viewer literally gets a look under the hood and behind the scenes in the garage.

Drive your car as long, cleanly and safely as possible

The initiative comes from program and documentary maker Gwen Jansen, who also produces the program. Servicegarage Profile and garage platform Mijngarage.nl have made it financially possible to bring the program to the general public.

”The age of the 9 million cars in our country is relatively high at 11 years old. We don't just replace them all with an electric, clean or economical car. It is simply not for everyone to buy an electric or new car or to always use public transport, bicycle or a shared car. I myself belong to that group. And I was more and more ashamed of that. That's why I went to investigate with my camera to find an answer to the question of what you can do then."

Jansen toured various experts and social organizations such as the Consumers' Association, Milieu Centraal, the Thomas More University of Applied Sciences, Safe Traffic Netherlands, NOVE, RAI Aftermarket, AMT Vakmedianet and BOVAG.

“I soon found out that there is still a lot to be gained for the climate, your wallet and your own safety on the road if you have more insight into your own car and driving style and keep a close eye on a few things yourself. And it turns out you don't even have to be technical for that.”

Using the car more environmentally friendly

A program like 'Happiness on Wheels' comes as a calling for many people. No less than 47% of the men and 42% of the women want to use their car in a more environmentally friendly way, but do not know how, according to research that Jansen had carried out by research agency Motivication. And 38% of men and 28% of women want more technical knowledge of their own car. As many as 72% of people don't check tire pressure often enough. 60% drive around with the soft tires because it costs a lot of extra fuel.

“When I heard that, the circle was complete. I am very grateful that Profile and Mijngarage.nl have made it possible for me to inspire and help many car owners with this TV program, together with a great team of experts.”

Knowledge and expertise of experts

The presentation of the program is in the hands of Melanie Schuurman (APK judge & Diagnosis expert), Dorien Hielkema (driving coach and driving school owner) and Gwen Jansen herself. Bas Daatselaar (APK inspector & car technician), Henk Blom (Tyre expert), Mark Pecqueur (car researcher at Thomas More University of Applied Sciences) and Sander Koot (car polisher and damage repairer) are also taking action in the program.
