Last Friday, the ILT and the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee held a taxi and bus check at Schiphol. This resulted in several warnings and violations. Strikingly two taxi drivers who performed work without a permit and thus offer taxi transport. The inspectors had to give an order 3 times for the cessation of work and once for illegal driving on the BSN.

Checks regularly take place near national and regional airports. Those who do not have their affairs in order can then receive an order to cease work or a fine for other violations, often involving missing the necessary permit. Last week, 3 taxis were checked at 14 stations, Zwolle, Deventer and Apeldoorn. 1 driver wrongly drove on BSN. There was also 2x daily rest warning and 1x slippery tire warning.

All taxis in the Netherlands must be equipped with a taxi on-board computer (BCT). The ILT checks, among other things, for the presence and use of a BCT. The ILT also checks whether the driver in question uses a valid driver card during his work. The driver card is personal and may not be used by another driver.

The inspector can decide to issue a fine if the driver is not in possession of a valid permit, an activated and approved BCT, a registration of journeys in the BCT. Other common violations are missing a valid driver card or driving on a citizen service number (BSN), no approved taximeter or the taxi information card not visible.

Offering and providing taxi transport without a license is not permitted. Illegal taxi transport is popularly referred to as a 'snorder', or 'black taxi'. providers of illegal taxi services run the risk of high fines. The maximum fine is € 4.400. In addition, they will be imposed a Charge under penalty (LOD). In the event of repetition, they must pay a penalty of € 10.000 each time. People who allow themselves to be transported by an illegal taxi run various risks. For example, a snorder is not insured when transporting people. In addition, as a customer you often do not know who you are getting into and whether the vehicle is safe. Illegal taxis also form unfair competition for legal taxi companies and drivers. Passengers of snorders are not (yet) punishable.

Passengers can recognize snorders by a number of characteristics. For example, they do not have a driver card, on-board computer or blue license plate on their car. And usually these illegal drivers offer the taxi rides cheaper than legal taxi drivers. Facilitating illegal taxi transport is also not allowed. This applies, for example, to catering entrepreneurs who arrange illegal taxis for their customers. In the event of signals about facilitating illegal taxi transport, the municipality and the ILT point out the consequences of this to the catering entrepreneurs both verbally and in writing (BIBOB Act).
