Due to major maintenance, the Aalsmeerbaan near Schiphol will be out of use for three months. The work will start on Monday and will last until mid-July. The aircraft that normally land or depart on this runway must divert to Buitenveldertbaan, Schiphol-Oostbaan and Kaagbaan. According to the airport, this leads to extra noise nuisance for local residents.

During the maintenance, most of the Aalsmeerbaan – an area of fifty football fields – will be given new asphalt. Also 1650 new LED lamps will be installed in the asphalt, 50 kilometers of cabling will be laid and 17 kilometers of markings will be applied. In addition, the airport is repairing, cleaning or replacing the rainwater wells around the runway and Air Traffic Control the Netherlands is replacing a system that supports aircraft when landing.

By doing all the work at the same time, the track is out of use for a long time once every seven years. Since the Aalsmeerbaan is always closed at night, its closure will not affect night flights.
