customers have been able to set up an automatic £30 top-up on their Oyster card since March 10

TfL (Transport for London) has halved the minimum amount that Oyster cards automatically top up from £20 to £10 as the cost of living continues to rise. To accommodate, TfL customers since last Wednesday who automatically top up their Oyster cards will set this to £10, instead of the previous £20 default. Customers still have the option to automatically top up with £20 and £40 if they wish.

TfL-go fares had risen nearly five percent this month, putting London Underground, bus, DLR and tram passengers at risk. The 4,8 percent increase comes as TfL tries to recover lost revenue after the pandemic. Most fares have increased by 10p or 20p, the biggest increase in TfL fare prices since 2012. Only metro fares within Zone 1 will increase from £2,40 to £2,50.

Mike Tuckett, head of customer payments at TfL said: “As part of our work to make paying for public transport as convenient and convenient as possible, customers will be able to set up a £30 automatic top-up on their Oyster card from 10 March. This will then automatically add £10 to pay as you go to their card when the balance falls below the £20 threshold.”
