The number of nuisance reports about Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA) increased in 2021. This is apparent from the annual report that was drawn up for the period November 2020 to October 2021. It was drawn up by DCMR on behalf of the RTHA Administrative Steering Group (BRR RTHA). In total, DCMR received 38.113 reports about air traffic to and from RTHA in the reporting period. In 2020, DCMR received 30.773 reports.

  • The total number of reports increased in 2021 compared to 2020. During this period, small air traffic on RTHA increased by 15%.
  • The amount of measured aircraft noise has hardly increased or decreased in 2021 compared to 2020.
  • Nearly 25.000 reports were made in 2021 by 51 frequent reporters and 1377 other reporters.

More small domestic air traffic in 2021
Rotterdam The Hague Airport explains the increase in the number of nuisance reports in the fact that there was more small domestic air traffic in 2021 compared to two years earlier (+19% compared to 2019). This is due to the travel restrictions in corona time. Even after a relatively long period of silence in which there was little or no air traffic, air traffic was extra noticeable halfway through last year in the months of the start-up. The discussion about flight nuisance in the current participation process 'Rotterdam The Hague Airport Airport Decree' can also play a significant role in reporting nuisance.

Figures compared to 2020
The total number of flights in the large aviation category decreased further this year (-7%). Compared to 2020, the total number of reports increased (+19%). The number of reports of nuisance from small aviation increased by 39% and the number of flights in that category also increased (+19%). Nearly 25.000 reports were made by 51 frequent reporters and by 1377 other reporters.

Hamount of aircraft noise remained the same
In the operating year 2021, the amount of measured aircraft noise has hardly increased or decreased compared to 2020. For two locations, in Schiedam and in Bergschenhoek, the measured amount of aircraft noise and the contribution to it by helicopter traffic was compared with the calculated amount of aircraft noise at those locations. . Differences can be observed in the calculated and measured results. The difference between the two methods is mainly due to the way in which helicopter traffic is processed in the calculation model. DCMR considers this an important observation for the Programmatic Approach for Measuring Aircraft Noise (PAMV) and for the participation process to arrive at a new airport decision.

Annual report: possible causes of noise nuisance from the airport in focus
The annual report describes and analyzes reports from local residents about aircraft movements at Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA). This concerns reports that were received by DCMR Milieudienst Rijnmond about noise nuisance, which can be attributed to RTHA. In this way DCMR identifies possible causes of noise nuisance from aircraft movements to and from the airport and reports and advises on this to administrative parties and the Regional Consultation Committee (CRO) RTHA.

“The environmental service is the counter for reports and questions about aviation in South Holland. Reports may lead to further investigation. Often it is not immediately possible to do something about the nuisance. But in the long term, this can contribute to reducing nuisance. This gives us insight into where and when the most nuisance occurs and we can do our utmost to adjust this. We take reports such as those of DCMR seriously.”

Resultltate air traffic 2021
In 2021, 764.061 passengers traveled to and from Rotterdam The Hague Airport (RTHA), an increase of 54% compared to the first corona year 2020. Rotterdam The Hague Airport received more than a quarter of a million more passengers last year (almost 267.000 passengers). more) than a year earlier. The number of air transport movements (large traffic > 6 tons) of, for example, commercial scheduled and holiday flights rose to 6355 flights, also more than in 2020 (+20 percent).

Small Aviation
The traffic of the police and trauma helicopter at RTHA increased by almost 12% compared to 2020 (19.247 number of movements in 2021). The share of small aviation increased by 15% in one year (36.185 flights in 2021). The noise space within which the airport operates has not changed during this period, according to the Rotterdam Airport
