We've all read it in the newspapers in recent days and seen it on the news, extreme crowds and chaos at Schiphol for the May holiday. Last Monday, KLM had to cancel 30 flights due to the consequences of the ground staff strike last weekend. People queued for more than 5 hours and ended up missing their flight. Eindhoven Airport and Rotterdam Airport also warn on their website about crowds around the May holiday. The May holiday is approaching next week and some schools are already free this week. Many people therefore go on holiday to another country to seek out sun, sea and tranquility. The airports in our country are struggling with a staff shortage, which means that they have to row with the belts they have. A shortage of staff in combination with the busy May holidays is not a good combination.

You will have to be patient and expect long lines and waiting times. The airports ask travelers for understanding. It is busy in the departure hall and you stand in line for a long time at the check-in counters, security and passport control. So leave on time to the airport so that you don't miss your flight because you don't get through security on time. Schiphol, Eindhoven Airport and Rotterdam The Hague Airport have put special tips on their website for a smooth journey during busy times. During and around the May holidays, approximately 100.000 passengers travel from or to Eindhoven Airport (arriving and departing combined) per week. In the period from April 25 to May 8, approximately 89.000 passengers will use the airport at Rotterdam The Hague Airport, which is almost seven thousand per day. Between April 23 and May 8, Schiphol expects an average of 174.000 travelers every day. The big question is of course how it will go during the busy summer period, will this be complete chaos or will this problem have already been solved by then?
