In the run-up to the May holiday, the Dutch are massively booking their flight holiday to the sun. Last week, the VakantieDiscounter not only set a weekly record in terms of number of bookings, it also had the best booking day ever on Sunday.

With this, the records (which came from 2019, pre-corona) were amply broken. And the end is not yet in sight. Last week (week 16) a total of 30% more bookings were made than the week before.

This is partly due to the many booked May holidays; the school holidays started last Saturday. While in weeks 14 and 15 approximately 30% of the bookings concerned a May holiday, in week 16 this was almost 40%. These people will all leave within two weeks.

Spain & Turkey are the most popular destinations for the May holidays. “Turkey was a no-go for many travelers for a long time because of the orange travel advice. Since this advice has been relaxed, it has been booked en masse. Not surprising, because it is the most affordable all-inclusive destination at the moment," says Laura Vlaanderen of de VacationDiscounter.
