A train of the Raaberbahn derailed Monday evening near Münchendorf in the Mödling district, causing two wagons to overturn. According to Sonja Kellner of the Red Cross in Lower Austria, one person died in the accident. Three people were seriously injured and nine others slightly injured, the spokeswoman said. 

According to the ÖBB, the site of the accident was the Pottendorf line shortly after 18.00 p.m. According to Stefan Loidl of the state police of Lower Austria, 44 people were unharmed. The driver and 56 passengers were on board the train, which was on its way from Deutschkreutz to Vienna Central Station.

Ventus

A large number of rescue workers were deployed to the accident site. In addition to helpers from the Red Cross and the Samaritan Association, four ÖAMTC emergency helicopters were deployed, according to “Notruf NÖ”. The train of the Raaberbahn “Ventus” that crashed consisted of a double set – two times three wagons. One of the wagons ends up in a field. A second also remained sideways on the dike next to the tracks. The four other yellow and green cars slid off the rails. However, they remained in the track bed.
