This concerns thousands of extra bookings per month.

The use of private shared cars will increase by 2022% in the first quarter of 25 compared to last year. Now that people are on the road again after corona, they more often choose a shared car from neighbors in the neighborhood. This concerns thousands of extra bookings per month. The number of car sharers is growing particularly fast in Rotterdam (33%) and The Hague (32%), according to figures from the car-sharing platform SnappCar. Car-sharing is also growing in Amsterdam by approximately 11 percent.

Erik Rutten, CEO of the company: “With the lockdowns behind us, people are less attached to having their own car in front of the door. After the standard lease box, people now opt for partial convenience with a combination of bicycle, public transport and shared car. That also saves on high fuel costs.” He continues: “A positive turn of events, because car sharing saves 10-15% extra CO2 emissions. It prevents even more unnecessarily parked gaze in the city. Why would you continue to pay your blue for a car that is parked for more than 23 hours a day?”

The puzzle does not fit: 10 million electric cars in 2030?

Between 2012 and 2022, the number of passenger cars increased by 14% to 8,9 million, according to figures from the CBS† This growth is problematic. Even if in 10 years all cars will be electric, our roads and our windmills and solar panels will not be able to handle this growth to 10 million cars by 2030. Building all these cars requires a lot of extra CO2 emissions.
Eric Rutten: “It is impossible to keep up with the growing number of cars. It's a dead end. Even if all cars will soon be electric, it will still be impossible to keep building roads, parking garages and windmills. Car sharing is an indispensable puzzle piece to make the switch to sustainable transport from A to B.”

100 m2 extra space per shared car

One shared car replaces approximately 8 privately owned cars. Those cars are parked for an average of 23 hours a day in a parking space of approximately 12,5 square meters. This is therefore a saving of almost 100 square meters in parking spaces. This space can also be used for a playground, a strip of greenery or a single-family home.

Make 1000 cars directly shareable per city

Uit recent research commissioned by RijkswaterstaatIt turns out that a lot of profit can be made by making the current fleet more shareable. With the installation of keyless technology in private cars, no key transfer has to take place. This makes renting between neighbors easier and faster. Erik Rutten about this: “Dear new city councillors, give car sharing a boost in your city. Make 1000 cars in the city centers directly shareable per app and thus help people on the right track”.
