The 75 most beautiful Volkswagen buses in the Netherlands will be driving the Bus tot Buzz Tour on Wednesday 1 June. During the event, an expert jury will also choose the most beautiful bus in the Netherlands. This year marks 75 years since Volkswagen began production of the iconic Transporter (T1). This bus became a worldwide success and was loved by the most diverse people: from plumbers to hippies and from breakdown services to campers. There is also a Dutch touch to this success. It was the Dutch importer Ben Pon who visited the Volkswagen factory in Germany on April 23, 1947, with a simple sketch under his arm. He convinced Volkswagen that there was a great need for practical delivery vans in the Netherlands and a few years later the first Transporters rolled off the production line.

The anniversary is reason for Volkswagen and Volkswagen Bedrijfswagens to organize a ride with the most beautiful and special buses. Hundreds of candidates applied for this after a call earlier this year. From perfectly restored Samba buses to DIY campers, from original Caravelles to rat look low riders. From this a jury selected 75 participants. The selection takes into account the distribution between the different generations, from L1 to L6. The 75 chosen vans will drive the Bus to Buzz Tour on Wednesday 1 June, which starts at Pon in Leusden. From there, the procession tours various places in search of the history of the Volkswagen bus.

An expert jury led by Klaus Zyciora, head of design at the Volkswagen Group, will select the most beautiful bus in the Netherlands that day. The jury also includes Christian Schlüter (product manager at Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles and author of books about the Volkswagen bus), Marije Voorn (marketing manager Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles), Bas van Putten (automotive journalist NRC and columnist AutoWeek), Wouter Karssen (editor-in-chief Autoblog.nl) and Leen de Koning (Volkswagen dealer and Volkswagen collector). The anniversary coincides with the arrival of the new ID. Buzz and ID. Buzz Cargo. The shapes of this fully electric van or passenger car are strongly reminiscent of the first Volkswagen bus, the T1. The new model will also be on the road on June 1.
