Steps automatically slow down or stop.

Antwerp is going to do something about the electric scooters that drive too fast and often cause dangerous situations. The city is introducing additional regulations for shared scooters on its territory. “We are therefore tightening the regulations in consultation with the providers of the shared scooters,” says Koen Kennis (N-VA), alderman for Mobility. In consultation with the providers of partial steps the steps will even automatically reduce speed and stop when you enter them anyway.

no go zones are areas in which the use of the scooter is not desirable, including in nature reserves and cemeteries, at Antwerp Central station and at the entrances of the Brabant tunnels on the Leien. The partial scooters automatically reduce speed and stop when users enter these zones. The technology makes it possible to automatically control the steps via geofencing.

"For example, whoever drives in Central Station - people also ride there with their shared scooter - will go to 0 km per hour, and then your scooter will not be of much use to you."

no park zones are applicable in busy areas or areas with limited public space, such as nature reserves, cemeteries, sports fields, playgrounds, bridges over the Ring and areas of the Ring. People will no longer be able to park or leave their scooter anywhere. If you leave your scooter there, you will not be able to log out and your rental time will continue, so that you continue to pay.

slow speed zones there will be in busy areas or pedestrian zones, such as the Meir and on and around the Grote Markt. Between 11 a.m. and 19 p.m., the scooter automatically slows down to a maximum of 8 kilometers per hour. This should ensure that there are no conflicts with pedestrians. For Tom Dhollander of the pedestrian movement demarcated zones for shared scooters are a good thing.

From Monday 18 July, restrictions will also be introduced on partial scooters in the form of no go zones, no park zones and slow speed zones. The city wants to limit annoying and dangerous situations with shared scooters as much as possible. The different zones will be visible to everyone in the online city map by that day.
