Work is plentiful, staff unfortunately not. They are faced with serious staff shortages in all kinds of sectors. Schiphol, public transport companies and the catering industry all face the same problem and are busy recruiting staff. If you sit on the terrace, the service is scarce and your patience is put to the test. Sometimes people are even asked to order via the QR code on the menu and pay immediately, so that the staff does not have to take orders and pay, but only bring the orders.

Several transport companies are facing serious staff shortages. The staff experience so much work pressure due to the staff shortage that they want a wage on top of that. This leads to strikes. At the Dutch Railways they have been urgently looking for conductors, drivers, IT people and mechanics for some time now. They do everything they can to recruit staff, for example, a train simulator traveled from station to station to draw attention to the driver and conductor. Due to staff shortages, fewer trains are already running on various routes and shorter trains are running. Soon there will be strikes here too.

The horror stories and images of the chaos and crowds at Schiphol due to a shortage of staff are unfortunately on every traveler's mind. Schiphol Airport recently became a special recruitment campaign started for security guards. This recruitment campaign runs in July and August. The recruitment campaign takes place mainly online.

It is promoted on various social media channels: Facebook, Instagram and Snapchat, supplemented with digital outdoor in BasicFit gyms. During the months of July and August, recruitment spots are also broadcast on digital radio stations, such as Radio 538, Sky Radio and Radio Veronica. Schiphol has also recently held a job fair, which has resulted in 230 filled vacancies at the 50 companies present. Unfortunately, there are still plenty of vacancies.

“We have been working hard for months to help the companies that provide services at Schiphol to recruit additional staff. This includes the security companies CTSN, Trigion, G4S, I-Sec and Securitas. The good news is that companies have seen a significant increase in the number of applications in recent weeks. However, we still have many vacancies to fill. I hope and expect that with this campaign we can entice many people to apply for a fun and challenging job as a security guard at Schiphol and look forward to welcoming many new colleagues in the near future”.
