The Royal Netherlands Meteorological Institute has announced code orange for South Holland because of the heat. The municipality of The Hague therefore calls on people to take precautions when visiting the Hague Coast. The municipality advises to use public transport, (shared) bicycle or (shared) scooter. The expectation is that the parking garages will fill up quickly. Due to the traffic jams that then arise, it is possible that you have to wait in the car for a longer period of time. This can lead to dangerous situations due to the high temperature. If you do travel by car, make sure you have enough water and keep an eye on the travel advice about the accessibility of the coast.

With a temperature well above 30 degrees in combination with the holiday period, it is expected that it will be pleasantly busy on the coast of The Hague. To ensure that this runs smoothly, the municipality has taken measures and calls on everyone who goes to the beach to take the warm weather into account. For example, by drinking enough water, limiting physical exertion and ensuring sufficient cooling.

Measures

Many measures have been taken to manage the (traffic) pressure in the right direction. Examples are the use of traffic controllers and traffic measures that allow traffic to flow through several places in Scheveningen and Kijkduin. There is also a broad deployment of police and enforcement, including Coastal Supervision Team, the bike team, the scan team and the nautical boas. SUS & Safety teams (security officers) are present on the Boulevard of Scheveningen in the afternoon and evening hours. They are there to intervene early as soon as an excess occurs and to support hospitality and entrepreneurs where necessary. Boulevard stewards specifically address young people about undesirable behaviour. Bicycle coaches and parking coaches guide the parking of (shared) bicycles and (shared) scooters in the right direction. All these measures can be further supplemented if the situation so requires.

Monitoring

In order to be able to intervene more quickly when busy, the municipality has been working with crowding scenarios (different situations with varying crowds) for some time now. That means: the busier it gets, the more measures there are. Think of deploying traffic controllers, extra police and enforcement officers, or closing some streets. The situation is continuously monitored by on-site employees, reports from, among others, the Reporting Center Nuisance Scheveningen and, recently, real-time information about crowds on site and the traffic approaching Scheveningen. In this way, the municipality can make decisions based on the latest information to manage the crowds in the right direction.
