The basic principle is that all customers can have their vehicle inspected quickly and on time.

The month of August brings some changes for the car inspection. From 1 August, car owners will be able to go to the inspection anywhere in Flanders without an appointment, and that at least one day a week. Since the corona pandemic, it has been mandatory in certain regions to make an appointment for the periodic inspection, but that obligation will soon be abolished. Sector organization GOCA Vlaanderen and its members agreed to switch back to a mixed system from August, in which they also work at least one day a week without an appointment.

The corona pandemic has resulted in a number of inspection companies working almost exclusively by appointment for the periodic inspection of passenger cars and light freight for organizational and health reasons. Now that we can hopefully leave corona behind us, the entire sector will once again offer a mixed system from 1 August. This means inspection with and without an appointment.

inspection without appointment

Where and when you can go without an appointment, there will be clear and transparent communication via the various information channels of the inspection companies. The basic principle is that all customers can have their vehicle inspected quickly and on time within the validity period of their inspection certificate. In concrete terms, this means that the companies that worked exclusively by appointment in the past period will free up at least 1% of their capacity from 20 August for inspection without an appointment.

The ratio used with and without an appointment will be actively monitored and followed up, with a view to making adjustments where necessary. It is advisable to use the webcams or pressure barometers on the websites of the inspection companies to avoid peak times and queues. You can drive your car in for the inspection from 2 months before the expiry date on the inspection certificate, while retaining that date. With or without an appointment? Take a look at www.autokeur.be. There you will find a clear map with all inspection centers in Flanders. If you click on the desired inspection center, you will immediately find all useful information there.

motorcycles

From 1 January 2023, motorcycles must undergo an inspection when they are sold and after an accident. Motorcycles will not be subject to a periodic inspection. This has just been definitively approved by the Flemish Government. The decision is the result of the transposition of a European directive and is part of the Flemish Road Safety Plan that aims for zero road deaths by 2050.

In concrete terms, this concerns motorcycles, tricycles and quadricycles with a combustion engine with a cylinder capacity of more than 125 cc and electric or hybrid motorcycles with a maximum power of more than 11 kilowatts and a maximum speed of more than 45 kilometers per hour. Lighter motorcycles do not have to go to the inspection for the time being.
