Deliveroo expects the final closing date of operations to be the end of November.

In an email to customers, Deliveroo said it had made the difficult decision to start a consultation process on the proposal to stop operations in the Netherlands. According to the company, this was not an easy decision and they had to think very carefully about it. They are currently going through a consultation process about the proposal to leave the Dutch market.

According to Deliveroo, its mission is to provide the very best meal delivery service in the world. That's why they want to provide a service that works great for their customers, riders, shopping partners and restaurants. The company indicates when they cannot achieve this in a certain market at the level they expect, they do not.

No final decision has been made yet, but if they decide to exit the market at the end of the consultation process, we expect the final end date of their operations to be the end of November. During this period, the services will remain available as normal and you can therefore continue to order from your favorite restaurants.

setback

In the United Kingdom, where the company comes from, it is also struggling, just like in the Netherlands, with consumers who are increasingly keeping their budget. People eat out less often and order less. Deliveroo has therefore also had to adjust the expected growth of the gross transaction value downwards there. Last month, UK consumer confidence fell more than ever.

Deliveroo has been involved in a legal battle about having to employ deliverers. The company wants them to be seen as self-employed, but several courts have already labeled them as employees. The delivery service also has problems in Paris. The disputed status of the couriers and leads to lawsuits in many countries. In total, the company would not have paid more than 6 million euros in social contributions. Three of its former directors were suspected of having registered several employees as self-employed when they should have been employees.

groceries

The fact that the company, a competitor of the Dutch Just Eat Takeaway/Thuisbezorgd, is starting a consultation is probably due to more problems than just in the Netherlands. Delivery service Deliveroo expects less turnover in the coming years. The fact that it is difficult is reason to look for partners and to cooperate by deploying the couriers as flash deliverers. British consumers can have products from the Asda store within 30 minutes from this month. Delivery is carried out by Deliveroo couriers. In the Netherlands, the company entered into a partnership with Albert Heijn in April for the home delivery of groceries. With this, the meal deliverer wanted to increase the range of groceries on the platform in the Netherlands.

the story

When Deliveroo's founder and CEO Will Shu moved to London in 2013, he discovered a city full of great restaurants. But was he surprised that so few of them delivered food. He made it his personal mission to make food from the very best local restaurants available to people at home. Operates today Deliveroo in a hyper-local market, bringing together local restaurants and shops, riders and customers. Deliveroo has grown rapidly by offering fast and reliable delivery that the customer can track via a smartphone. Deliveroo is active in 11 markets worldwide. Working with thousands of riders, restaurants and stores, the company serves millions of customers.
