Police reluctant to label it as an LGBTQ incident.

Hundreds of people demonstrated at the gay monument in Amsterdam in response to a possible assault during the past Pride weekend. A 23-year-old woman from Amsterdam says she was assaulted by an Uber taxi driver last weekend.

Uber is investigating the incident and while the investigation is ongoing, the driver is not allowed to drive for the taxi app. After the Pride in Amsterdam, two women were allegedly assaulted by an Uber taxi driver. The woman and her date suspect that it concerns LGBTQ related violence. The police confirm the incident, but do not yet label it as LGBTQ violence.

After the ride, there was a fire in the pan. The driver accused the victim of spitting under the car. According to her and her date, there was nothing to see. “We quickly suspected that it was actually about the kiss we gave each other,” she says. In het Parool she does her story. The police confirm that there was an incident between two women and an Uber driver in the Center during the night from Friday to Saturday.

Eveline Sijbrandij, responsible for rides in the Netherlands at Uber, calls it 'terrible what happened'. “Everyone has the right to a safe ride and we take this matter very seriously. The safety of all users of our app is a top priority, which is why this incident needs to be thoroughly investigated. We have offered our assistance to the police in their investigation of the incident.” While the investigation is ongoing, the driver will not be able to perform rides for Uber.

That Friday night the emergency room was called around 04.50 am by a taxi driver, who had a quarrel with his customers, which created an unpleasant situation. When officers arrived on the scene, they found two women, one of whom was bleeding heavily on her head. She would have fallen. The circumstances of her fall are a matter of investigation. The woman was taken to hospital by ambulance.

The detectives are conducting an extensive investigation into the incident. Among other things, a neighborhood survey was conducted and possible camera images were searched in the area in order to get as complete a picture as possible of the incident. If you have visual material, and have not yet shared it with the police, they would be happy to receive it. Think of dashcam images of parked cars or ring doorbells. You can upload the material via the tip form.

It is not the first time that incidents occur. Taxi drivers in The Hague refused to take 'drag queens' during The Hague Pride. The HTMC Taxicentrale was the first to respond from the taxi world in The Hague. The company emphasizes that it transports everyone, regardless of origin or nature.

"In the night of Friday 5 to Saturday 6 August, a 23-year-old woman was injured after she may have been assaulted by a taxi driver. The detectives are investigating the case and are looking for footage."
