There is plenty of room on the beaches of The Hague. That is not the problem and everyone is warmly welcome.

What is going on with the tourists in Scheveningen this year is really bizarre. The more enforcement, the fuller the parking spaces, but also the bustle in the streets of Scheveningen. There is plenty of room on the beaches of The Hague. That is not the problem and everyone is warmly welcome. It is no longer a mystery that most come by car and all want to park as close to the beach as possible.

foreigners

No foreign license plates. Striking this year are the Dutch yellow license plates that want to park everywhere. Resulting in wheel clamps. You see them everywhere, the illegally parked cars and this to the great annoyance of the residents. Private passages of residents are overrun by day tourists who claim all the space for themselves. You would almost think that everyone wants to stroll on the Boulevard in front of the Kurhaus.

Others do not understand why people go to Scheveningen or Zandvoort. There are many places on the Dutch coast where it is easier to park and which are also cheaper. Not everyone who comes to Scheveningen, which has long since ceased to be fashionable, spends money there, except for parking. The beach bars and the local catering industry complain this year about the presence of a 'different kind of tourists' compared to other years.

clothing style

You immediately understand what they mean when you walk into the shopping arcade and see all those men without top shirts. That may be a point of attention for the operators of the shopping arcade. If you don't wear a shirt, unfortunately you won't get in to look for the air conditioning, because they don't spend anyway. The local ice cream seller himself prominently places a sign in the middle of his shop that the toilet is broken. Just to prevent his business from filling up with toilet goers who don't buy a cone and prefer to sit on his patio chairs with a bowl of kibbeling. It's a day job to chase those tourists away.

It was busy on and around the beach in Scheveningen on Saturday. The parking lots are also mostly full.

We have an immeasurable number of tram lines, bus lines even a bikini tram, e-scooters and e-bikes and public transport bicycles that allow you to get to the beach much faster and also take you to beaches where it is not crowded. But everyone still wants to walk across the Kurhausplein because that makes for nice snapshots. There must be a charm offensive to save Scheveningen because tourists who come there spend far too little. While the municipality thinks that people are spending less due to the rising prices, beach bars and local restaurants continue to respond with sky-high rates.

to advertise

Enforcement may also be done with the taxi driver who arrives at 10.30 in the morning and parks his van in front of the Kurhaus. Hours later it is still there and you can't advertise cheaper at a busy point for taxi transport to Schiphol. The reason that the van is there for so long is probably because the rates shown are not correct. If you really want to book on the website, you pay € 176,50 instead of the advertising price on the bus. In summary, that taxi has no business there and pollutes every snapshot of the Kurhaus. Worse, it's a thorn in the side of the local taxi companies.

When local temperatures rise to 30 degrees, the municipality of The Hague calls on beachgoers to stop coming to Scheveningen by car. Visitors are still welcome, but they are asked to take the tram, bus or bicycle to the boulevard. Last summer, the road to Scheveningen was completely closed due to extreme crowds. Except for a few days, the municipality has not had to do that this summer because it is extremely quiet been this summer.
