The IND refers to the police for reporting the theft/loss.

Foreign residents who want to report a loss or theft of a residence card are sent from pillar to post in the Netherlands between all services. The most logical way would be a visit to the IND but that is not the case, despite the card being previously issued there.

IND

The Interdepartmental Postal and Courier Service (IPDK) is a central government delivery service. The IPDK is a specialist in the delivery of important documents. Has your residence document or VI been lost or stolen? Then provide the IPKD delivery person or employee with proof of 'declaration of loss' from the police.

police

The IND refers to the police for reporting the theft/loss. According to the IND, you will then receive a certified copy of the official report from the police. This is a copy with a date, signature and stamp of the authority. With a certified copy, an authority declares that the content of the copy is the same as the original.

Once we have arrived at the police website, after the advice of the IND, we are unfortunately at the wrong address. If you have lost your passport or identity card, or if a residence card is lost or stolen, it is no longer possible to report it to the police. According to the police, you must make a statement of loss to your municipality. This is necessary to prevent misuse of your old travel document and to apply for a new travel document.

Passports, identity cards and driving licenses are the property of the Dutch State. You must therefore report the loss or theft to your municipality.

The municipality registers the lost or stolen document in a national system. From that moment on, the document is no longer valid, even if you find it again. The police are connected to this national system. You therefore do not have to report the loss or theft of the document to the police.

municipality

Once logged in to the municipality, the search is complete, or so we think. But unfortunately again no solution as far as the municipality of Eindhoven is concerned. Due to a malfunction last Monday, it was unfortunately not possible to request products such as extracts and travel documents. Sorry for the inconvenience.

If you lose your residence permit abroad, the procedures are completely different.

Fortunately, we speak the Dutch language during our search. But for those who are less proficient in the language, this procedure must be quite tedious and often impossible to get through. Creating clarity in official procedures between all the different services is not self-evident.

abroad

If you lose your residence permit abroad, the procedures are completely different. File a declaration abroad. You will need this declaration when applying for a replacement. The declaration must be drawn up in Dutch, English, French or German. Isn't this the case? Then have the declaration translated by a translator who has been sworn in by a court. Without a residence permit, you may need a visa to travel to the Netherlands again. Please contact the Dutch embassy or consulate in the country where you are staying.
