The immediate result is traffic jams that last for miles on the Kleine Ring and chaos in the neighborhoods involved.

According to it Auto55.be is the new circulation plan in Brussels dangerous. Only with Google Maps or Waze on your smartphone can you find your way in the new maze of loops, cuts and one-way streets and it is not self-evident to know where you are still allowed to drive. Traffic has been in trouble since August 16 due to a new circulation plan. According to the fire service, it is only a matter of time before this claims victims. What was supposed to be a large-scale approach to mobility in the Pentagon, with the aim of creating a car-free city center, is now threatening to get out of hand.

”And now we are still in the middle of the summer holidays and in a period of renovation work on the tunnels.

The immediate result is traffic jams that last for miles on the Kleine Ring and chaos in the neighborhoods involved. The city of Brussels and the Brussels Minister of Mobility Elke Van den Brandt (Green) keep motorists under control with false promises and lies about quality of life and air quality, according to the group chairman. Naturally, there are also reactions to the introduction of the circulation plan from a political angle.

Vlaams Belang plays the card of modern urban mobility, where different modes of transport coexist or complement each other. “The current red-green mobility policy uses a conflict model where people are pitted against each other,” Lootens-Stael continues. “The planning of road works must be coordinated and workable alternatives must be provided. And that does not happen with the roll-out of 'Good Move', and a fortiori with the green mobility vision in general.”

“Now take the pedestrian zone on the Anspachlaan. Previously the beating heart of Brussels with various sights, shops or mythical catering establishments. After years of work, that offer has diminished considerably. And it's unsafe at night,” says Lootens-Stael. “The 'Good Move' measures are now blocking traffic even more, which will make the situation even worse.”

“Alternatives must be provided and citizens must be guided through the change. Not the way it is happening now, with bullying measures without much coordination,” concludes Lootens-Stael. “Now it is established that the city has become unlivable due to the stagnant traffic that they have created themselves. We therefore request a suspension of the circulation plan until the end of the renovation works on the Brussels tunnels.”
