In the coming years, PostNL will employ thousands of additional parcel deliverers. The company thus gives an impulse to three crucial elements of its working method: as many permanent employment contracts as possible, sustainable partnerships and climate-friendly delivery. The aim is that in the long term at least half of all parcels in the Netherlands will be delivered by parcel deliverers who are employed by PostNL. That's now 1.900 people and that's going to be about 6.000. Delivery entrepreneurs are actively encouraged to grow in order to enable further professionalization and sustainability. Employment is and remains the standard for parcel deliverers who work for delivery companies.

As many permanent employment contracts as possible

In the coming years, PostNL will employ thousands of additional parcel deliverers itself. So that in the long term at least half of all parcels will be delivered by parcel deliverers who are employed by PostNL. In order to be able to respond effectively to developments in the postal and parcels market, PostNL must constantly adapt. This requires investments in innovation and sustainability, but also in good work and commissioning. For example, in 2015, all self-employed workers were offered a permanent contract with PostNL, a collective labor agreement is the standard for all people who work at and for the company and all postal deliverers immediately receive a permanent contract. PostNL also works closely with sheltered workshops across the country to provide work for some 1.600 people with a distance to the labor market.

Sustainable partnerships

The structural growth in the parcel market, the expected social developments and changes in the field of labor and sustainability also require adjustments in the collaboration with delivery companies. PostNL strives for sustainable partnerships and is happy with the more than 500 delivery companies, with whom they have worked together for many years to mutual satisfaction. PostNL will encourage and support them to grow further and work on a larger scale. Because larger entrepreneurs are more robust and agile, have more time for their business operations and have more financial scope for investments in sustainability.

Climate-friendly delivery

PostNL has ambitious climate targets and is working towards emission-free delivery in the last mile by 2030. Larger companies have more room to invest in electric transport, charging infrastructure and other climate-friendly measures. Growth is therefore necessary to enable delivery entrepreneurs to become more sustainable. In addition, PostNL will reimburse the extra costs for an electric parcel box and a one-time bonus of € 2.000 is available per ordered electric parcel box in 2022. postal company.
