The renovated Koekamp was recently officially opened by alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer. The name of the new port on the site was also announced. The name was chosen by a jury from 269 entries: Paxhaven. The new harbor is part of the refurbished green entrance to The Hague and the Hollandse Duinen National Park and will be a boarding and mooring place for small boats.

A jury consisting of alderman Hilbert Bredemeijer, Vesna Knezevic (official client of the municipality of The Hague) and Jeroen Oosterwal (chairman of the residents' organization Residents around 't Plein) chose the name Paxhaven from 269 entries. This name was submitted by Mrs. Brink. Her daughter, Jozefien Voorhuis, was present to receive a gift voucher. The port is expected to be ready in the spring of 2023.

“The name pax, 'peace' in Latin, fits perfectly with The Hague as a city of peace and justice. In addition, Paxhaven can be pronounced well in any language and is easy to remember. To me, the renovation of the Koekamp symbolizes the actions we are taking as a municipality to make The Hague's outdoor space greener, more sustainable and more accessible. Green in our city is important. So I am happy with how beautiful it has become here.”

Green city entrance
With the construction of the harbor and the transformation of the Koekamp, the green city entrance is almost ready. In recent months, new trees have been planted, better walking and cycling paths have been constructed and the water on the station side of the Deer Camp has been moved. In the summer of 2023, work will start on the work site of Staatsbosbeheer. The site will therefore be accessible to the public and an information center will be built, according to the municipality The Hague.
