train traffic between Amsterdam and Haarlem was shut down for a short time on Saturday afternoon

Tens of thousands of fans will travel to the coastal town this weekend for the Grand Prix. A well-organized flow of people between the station and the circuit is the result. Despite the crowds, train traffic between Amsterdam and Haarlem was halted for a short time on Saturday afternoon because a bus ran into a railway viaduct in Haarlem. The Amsterdam-Haarlem route forms an important train route to Zandvoort.

five minutes

NS will be deploying twelve trains per hour throughout the weekend to transport fans from Haarlem and Amsterdam to Zandvoort and vice versa. This means a train every five minutes. The aim is to be able to bring 10.000 passengers per hour to F1. Once at Zandvoort aan Zee, thousands of visitors walk along the boulevard of the village and along the marked routes to the entrance of the circuit.

Extensive traffic measures had already been taken prior to this event. This is to prevent extreme traffic nuisance in the seaside resorts and surroundings. The most important measure is that both access roads to Zandvoort and Bloemendaal aan Zee will be closed to motorized traffic for days. During this period, visitors can only reach the seaside resort by public transport, bicycle or on foot.

Williams' Alexander Albon was the only one driving on the track at the time, but he was not bothered by the smoke. Due to the stupid action, the race management decided to stop the session for a while to let the orange pot smoke out. Apart from the smoke bomb incident, the atmosphere in Zandvoort on Saturday was excellent, especially after the crowd favorite managed to grab pole position.

Sporting director Jan Lammers called on the fans in a video message to leave the torches at home on Sunday.
