Working during your vacation. For many a doom scenario, but more and more self-employed people consciously choose it. One in three zzp will be on workation in 2022 been or has one planned. For an average of two and a half weeks, they combine work with a holiday. A trend that has been given an extra push due to the corona crisis. This is apparent from a Knab survey among 1.100 self-employed workers.

Vacation important for mental fitness

Due to the extreme shortage on the labor market, most self-employed entrepreneurs have more than enough work. Obviously good for their turnover, but that crowds also make it extra important to go on holiday. 85 percent of those surveyed indicate that they need a holiday to stay mentally fit. At the same time, a quarter of the self-employed are afraid that they will miss out on vacation, work and therefore income. A workation seems to be the ideal solution for this.

Majority of self-employed can also do the work at a holiday address

The nature of your work must of course allow you to workation. 64 percent of the self-employed people surveyed say that they could do their work – at least partly – from their holiday address. A percentage that varies considerably by sector. In construction and catering, far fewer entrepreneurs have that option. Respectively 30 and 37 percent of the self-employed in that sector say they can work from a holiday address.

It is a different story for entrepreneurs in the IT sector. There, 90 percent indicate that they can do most of their work during their vacation. It turns out to be the most suitable sector for a workation. The business services sector is in second place. Within that sector – which includes consultants, for example – 83 percent can work remotely.

Corona boosts popularity of workation

The corona crisis has made it a lot easier for clients to think about remote working. Where in the past clients sometimes required you to come and work at their office for at least a few days, most now find it fine if you deliver your work from abroad. Of all self-employed people who can do their work remotely, 87 percent indicate that their client thinks more easily about this now than before the pandemic.
