"What's going on with transport planning requires urgent attention because things go wrong so often."

Rotterdam politicians are now done with all the problems surrounding the transport company Trevvel. Persistent problems with the transport of vulnerable children are the order of the day. According to Trevvel, the cause is the driver shortage, but politicians and the responsible alderman say there is more wrong. They speak of poor communication with the transport company and unclear route planning.

Trevvel has been providing target group transport for four years now. The company operates vans and taxis to take children with disabilities to and from school. It is known that things have not always gone smoothly in recent years, but everything beats this school year. Parents of children are in despair. The Rotterdam Ombudsman for Children Stans Goudsmit warns that more and more people around the students in the problems come. From parents who don't get around to work to teachers who wait hours for the van that doesn't come and then take the student away themselves.

reorganization

“What's going on with transport planning requires urgent attention because things go wrong so often,” said one of the desperate parents. Just before the start of the new school year, the carrier adopted a different transport schedule. In the context of a reorganization of the internal automation, and the integration of a planning system developed 'in-house' by Trevvel, the previous supplier was abandoned.

For alderman Struijvenberg, the facts must now be put on the table. How often and on which routes does it go wrong and how can we change that? He wants parents to know about the ride. If the schedule changes, parents must be informed in good time so that they can take this into account. Complaints about the unavailability of the app and incorrect information about the planning are the order of the day.

“We are in contact with ten alternative carriers and a number of companies that are already active for Trevvel. We are in talks with them to see if they can deploy extra capacity," says Struijvenberg.

That the cause is only a large staff shortage is no longer valid, there is more going on with the carrier. Paying more money for salaries, as the PvdA proposes, is not the solution. Many subcontractors and carriers have meanwhile said goodbye to Trevvel for very different reasons.

The Rotterdam Ombudsman for Children Stan Goudsmit wants there to be a solution before the autumn holidays or that the municipality would otherwise compensate parents who arrange their own transport. Within politics, the question is whether multiple carriers should not be urgently considered to solve the problem in Rotterdam.
