The NS expects that no train traffic will be possible between Weert and Roermond until 18.00 p.m. on Sunday.

In the night from Saturday to Sunday, an intercity with 250 passengers on board was derailed between Weert and Haelen. A spokesman for the Limburg fire brigade said that no injuries were reported. Images from local media also show that the train is still upright. The cause of the derailment is still unclear.

According to local media rescuers who were on site at the Schoordijk in Weert saw a rail in a strange place between the rails near the railway crossing. It is suspected that a rail, which was first in the middle between the rails, was placed transversely on the rails by vandals. Although the cause of the derailment is suspected, it has yet to be officially established.

The travelers were taken by a replacement train to Susteren, a town south of Roermond. Buses were waiting there. The NS expects that no train traffic will be possible between Weert and Roermond until 18.00 p.m. on Sunday due to the derailed train and will run according to an adjusted timetable.
