About 4700 travelers made use of the pilot.

From March to July, the Dutch Railways conducted a pilot on the The Hague-Eindhoven route. With the pilot NS Voordeel tickets, NS was ready to welcome travelers back to the train after the corona. The pilot meant that you could buy an e-ticket with a discount for this route, based on how busy the train is. The quieter the train, the higher the discount. The discount could be up to 60 percent. The discount was determined by pressure data and this technique has been extensively tested. The aim of the pilot was to spread the crowds in trains better and to make the train even more affordable.

“With NS Voordeel, we are offering a customized discount per train ride for the first time, with the aim of making train travel cheaper while at the same time spreading our passengers better over our trains. Travelers who traveled with this e-ticket during the pilot did so on average with a 30 percent discount, and the quiet moments with a high discount were particularly popular. With NS Voordeel we have a new tool in our toolbox to enable travelers to travel cheaply by train and to make better use of the capacity in our trains.”

The pilot was completed satisfactorily by NS. About 4700 travelers made use of the pilot. NS has decided to continue to offer NS Voordeel tickets on the The Hague-Eindhoven route. It is also being examined whether more routes can be added where these NS Voordeel tickets can be used. You do not need an NS subscription to use this discount. You plan the journey in the journey planner in the NS app or on ns.nl and see per departure time whether travel with a discount is possible. Then you buy it directly there NS Discount ticket and you will receive an e-ticket with QR code to be able to travel.
