The project offers participating students who use school transport an e-bike and thus the opportunity to cycle independently to school and from school to home.

The municipality of Amersfoort reports on their website that they have started a new project together with the municipalities of Bunschoten, Baarn, Soest, Leusden and Woudenberg. The project is called: Snelbinders. They started this project in collaboration with De Have Kennisdelers and the Axia College. The Axia-College is a secondary special education school. The above municipalities jointly organize the transport of pupils who live too far from school or for pupils who cannot go to school independently.

Pupils who use this school transport are often dependent on a taxi. We have all heard in the media that student transport is under pressure due to the lack of staff in the taxi industry. Students are late or not at all at school. The project offers participating students who use school transport an e-bike and thus the opportunity to cycle independently to school and from school to home. The municipalities consider it very important that students can go to school as independently as possible and therefore encourage initiatives that contribute to students' self-reliance.

The participating students must first follow a course before using the E-bike. The project is based on the strength of students and the will to be able to travel independently, students gain more independence and, according to them, the pressure on student transport decreases in this way. During the course, there is always assistance available for the students in case they break down. If the participating students are careful with their e-bike, they can keep it after 4 years. Recently, the first ten participating students of Alderman Nadya Aboyaakoub-Akkouh of the municipality Amersfoort (NL) received an e-bike including certificate, helmet, saddle cover and rain poncho. The next group of students will start the course in November.
