With the temperatures dropping, Brussels Mobility is closing the 2022 asphalt season. It was a good year and a lot of asphalting is already planned for 2023. Thanks to the mild weather in 2022, Brussels Mobility was able to make optimal use of the asphalting period (between the end of March and the end of October) to restore many complete road sections.

"We invest 10 million euros annually in the maintenance of our roads and cycle paths. That is important, because the quality of the roads is not only important for the comfort, but also for the safety of everyone: pedestrians, cyclists, motorcyclists and motorists. interventions also provided an opportunity to make improvements: placement of traffic islands and Berlin cushions to improve road safety, ocher colored cycle paths, new types of bollards and partitions to make cycle paths safer, etc."

"By asphalting entire sections on a large scale, the general condition of the regional road network improves enormously. That is why we act more proactively, so that we have to carry out fewer small, local and relatively expensive repairs. We also systematically use the asphalting to make small improvements that benefit the safety of all road users, so I am proud of the work done!"

Some examples of interventions that took place in 2022: Eugene Plaskylaan, Winston Churchilllaan, Lenniksebaan, Redersplein, Vorsterijlaan, various tunnels, etc. Every summer, all regional roads are checked for the quality of the road surface, so that the program for the following year can be determined. In 2023, for example, the Budasesteenweg, the Koning Albert II-laan between the Bolivarplein and the Boudewijnlaan, the Diamantlaan, the E40 exit to the Kolonel Bourglaan and the Woluwelaan between the Marcel Thirylaan and the regional border are on the program.

In addition to the major planned asphalting, repairs are constantly being carried out when specific problems arise on the road network. This involves repairing potholes and cracks in the road surface, securing sewage covers, etc. These problems can be reported via FixMyStreet, but Brussels Mobility also has its own road inspectors who detect and follow up on these problems.

In order to hinder traffic as little as possible, the asphalting of large road sections is planned as much as possible at night and during the weekend. During the season, all asphalts are announced on the website Brussels Mobility.
