Tour through Spain and Portugal abruptly cut short in Destelbergen.

The occupants are now back in the Netherlands, but the impact is huge. Victims are said to have suffered a concussion and a broken wrist, among other things. The Dutch bus driver saw a traffic jam too late and drove into the back of a stationary truck on the E17 near Destelbergen, between Antwerp and Ghent.

According to a statement to the Belgian police, the 50-year-old driver, from the Dutch company Betuwe Express from Herveld in Gelderland, noticed the traffic jam too late. The phone was confiscated for inspection, but the results showed that the device was not the reason for not noticing it too late. Drivers may only use electronic devices. His driver's license was revoked for fifteen days.

The driver, who was trapped for a long time after the crash, still pressed the brakes hard, but was unable to avoid a collision. The accident happened around 12 o'clock in the direction of Ghent. On the bus, about 20 occupants, mostly elderly people, suffered minor injuries. The highway was closed and all traffic in the direction of Ghent had to leave the highway in Beervelde and follow a diversion.
