To be able to renew a driver card, you must meet the issuance requirements again.

As a driver of a bus or truck with a Smart Tachograph, you need a driver card. The driving and rest times are recorded on this personal card. Kiwa Register issues these driver cards on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management.

When issuing driver cards, a distinction is made between drivers from EU countries and drivers from non-EU countries. Drivers from non-EU countries who professionally carry out goods or passenger transport for a Dutch company must apply for a temporary driver card for this purpose.

Are you a driver from an EU country and would you like to apply for a driver card for yourself? For this you must have been registered in the Netherlands for at least 185 calendar days. You can use a driver card request via the application portal of Kiwa Register. During the application process in the application portal, you will need to upload a number of supporting documents. It is useful to have these at hand in advance, such as a valid Dutch driving license B, C, D and/or E or, if you have a foreign driving licence, a digital copy of this valid foreign driving license and a digital passport photo.

To be able to renew a driver card, you must meet the issuance requirements again. You must also provide a passport photo again. Renewal must be requested from three months before the current driver card expires. If you have submitted an application for a smart tachograph card, you can view the status online in the application portal.

Kiwai

Kiwa Register focuses on the efficient processing of applications for formal permits and legal powers in the transport sector. Each year, Kiwa issues more than 100.000 permits and authorizations on behalf of the Minister of Infrastructure and Water Management to natural persons and companies in aviation, maritime shipping, inland shipping and passenger and freight transport by road. Kiwa Register is part of Kiwa NV, an international company in the field of testing, inspection and certification (TIC).

The Kiwa Register business unit was created in 2010 as a result of the relocation of most of the organization that was involved in licensing tasks within the Transport & Water Management Inspectorate (now the Human Environment & Transport Inspectorate). Since the relocation, Kiwa Register has been able to improve its permit services every year: delivery times have been shortened for all types of permits, while costs for the community have fallen since 2010.
