Fierce competition on the island and increased diesel prices were the main reasons for Wouter Smit not to continue. Last Tuesday, Taxi Bakker Terschelling BV in Midsland (Friesland) was declared bankrupt by the court in the Northern Netherlands. Names such as Yellow Cab, Taxi Centrale Terschelling, Taxi Smit Terschelling and Taxi Bakker Terschelling were well established on the island.

The company, located at Rozenland in Midsland, existed for more than 50 years. According to Ide Jan Woltman, who traveled to Terschelling on Wednesday afternoon to talk to owner Wouter Smit about the bankruptcy, the fierce competition on the island and increased diesel prices were the main reasons for stopping activities.

The bankruptcy ruling on January 31, 2023 includes various trade names such as Taxi Yellow Cab Terschelling, formerly Taxi Verhaagen, which was founded on Terschelling in 1969 by the Verhaagen family.
