Despite the material shortages that affected the entire automotive industry last year, DAF was able to continue its production and even increase it further.

With a European market share of 17,3% in the heavy segment and a production volume of 68.000 vehicles, DAF Trucks set new records in 2022. Both wonderful achievements reflect both the high demand for transport thanks to a strong economy and the impressive success of the New Generation DAF XD, XF, XG and XG⁺ trucks.

In 2022, DAF introduced the New Generation DAF XD, a new generation of vehicles for distribution transport and specific applications. The versatile DAF XD sets new standards in terms of safety, efficiency and driver comfort. That is why the XD was named 'International Truck of the Year 2023' by an independent jury of leading European transport journalists – taking over the title for 2022 from the DAF XF, XG and XG⁺ for long haul.

At the IAA truck exhibition in 2022, DAF also unveiled a completely new generation of battery-electric XD and XF trucks. They have a 'zero emission' driving range of up to 500 kilometers and will go into production in April 2023. To this end, DAF completed a brand new Electric Truck Assembly factory in Eindhoven.

Record production of 68.000 trucks

Despite the material shortages that affected the entire automotive industry last year, DAF was able to continue its production and even increase it further. In 2022, approximately 56.000 medium and heavy CF, XF, XG and XG⁺ trucks came off the line (49.000 in 2021) and approximately 12.000 LF distribution trucks (11.000 in 2021), setting a new production record.

Market leader in six European countries

DAF increased its European market share in the segment above 16 tonnes to a record 17,3% (2021: 15,9%) and ended the year as market leader in the United Kingdom (31,1%), the Netherlands (32,5 %), Belgium (23,6%), Poland (22,4%), Hungary (24,4%) and Bulgaria (26,4%). DAF remained the European market leader in the heavy tractor segment and is the largest import brand in Germany. In the light segment, DAF achieved a market share of 9,7% (previously 10,1%) and was once again market leader in the United Kingdom (37,5%).

Sell outside Europe

DAF will sell more than 2022 trucks outside the European Union in 7.500. In Taiwan, DAF remained the market leader among European manufacturers in the heavy segment. In addition, sales records were recorded in Israel, Colombia, Ecuador and Australia.

Component Sales: 20% growth

By 2022, DAF will supply more than 2.700 PACCAR engines worldwide to leading manufacturers of coaches, buses and special vehicles. That is an increase of more than 20% compared to 2021 (2.250 engines). DAF started the delivery of military trucks to the Belgian armed forces, as part of a total order of 879 'all-wheel-drive' vehicles, which will be delivered up to and including 2025, equipped with normal and armored cabins.

“A record number of new trucks were delivered with a DAF MultiSupport repair and maintenance contract. This means that more and more customers are opting for services that support maximum uptime. As a result, they benefit from optimal cost control and the highest vehicle availability.”

For the same reason, a record number of 1.100 transporters rely on the services of PACCAR Parts Fleet Services. In addition, PACCAR Financial's portfolio grew to an all-time high and sold a record number of used vehicles, it said DAF Trucks.

“It is estimated that the number of registrations in the above 16 tonne class in Europe will be between 2023 and 270.000 by 310.000. With a wide range of New Generation DAF XD, XF, XG and XG⁺ trucks and a complete range of Electric trucks, DAF is in an excellent position for another excellent year. Thanks to our industry-leading trucks and first-class services, together with our great employees and professional dealers, we are ready for the next step in success.”
