Many people are unprotected in the icy cold due to the risk of collapse.

Tens of thousands of people were hit by multiple powerful earthquakes and aftershocks in the earthquake in Turkey and Syria on Monday, February 6. The quakes caused enormous damage, the death toll has now risen to more than 5.000 people and the number of injured to more than 15.000. Many people are unprotected in the icy cold due to the risk of collapse.

The number of victims and deaths is expected to increase in the coming days. Emergency aid is urgently needed, both in the short and longer term. The cooperating aid organizations are joining forces and calling on the whole of the Netherlands to take action together for the victims of this humanitarian disaster. The giro number is immediately open for the victims in Turkey and Syria.

“It is a terrible disaster, the magnitude of which we cannot yet comprehend. In Turkey, the number of victims and those in need is rising rapidly. And in Syria, many people were already dependent on emergency aid before this earthquake. This disaster will get over that. People are scared and have to spend the night outside in the freezing cold. Immediate emergency aid is needed, such as medical care, blankets, food and clean drinking water. Giro555 is now open and calls on the Netherlands to donate for all women, men and children affected.”

The cooperating aid organizations consist of the Refugee Foundation, Cordaid, CARE Nederland, Kerk in Actie, Oxfam Novib, Save the Children, UNICEF, the Netherlands Red Cross, Plan International, Terre des Hommes and World Vision.
