Traveling to and from the city of Groningen with an NS train is problematic.

Due to a system malfunction, train passengers who want to travel to and from the city of Groningen on Tuesday morning with an NS train must take into account more than two hours of extra travel time. Around 10.00 a.m., no trains were running around Zwolle, because the disruption made it impossible to monitor train traffic. Due to the malfunction, several trains in the Zwolle region are stuck on the track.

The reactions on social media vary, but Koen hits the nail on the head. “Disruptions are extremely annoying and NS should do its utmost to keep them to a minimum. But let's be happy that safety comes first at NS and that people don't drive on when the safety systems don't function optimally." Others seriously wonder how much longer the government thinks it will be able to motivate the population to use public transport, especially in rural areas.

It is not clear how long the outage will last. The trip planner states that the disruption will last until at least 12.30:XNUMX p.m., but ProRail was unable to provide an estimate. A spokesman left nu.nl know that a solution is being worked on “with man and power”.

NS advises travelers to consult the journey planner. Much of the trouble in the north and east is caused by the outage.

Groningen

There is nothing like Groningen and it is getting busier at the station. That is why Prorail is building an underground pedestrian passage, a bicycle shed and a new bus station. In the coming years, they will prepare Groningen station for the future. The station will accommodate more trains. Regional travelers will soon no longer have to transfer, because ProRail wants to extend the regional tracks. You travel directly from Roodeschool and Delfzijl to Veendam and Bad Nieuweschans. However, this requires more tracks and more platforms. And they will take care of that.

In the new situation, Groningen station has four platform squares, with seven tracks where trains arrive and depart. A fourth track has already been laid between Groningen station and Europapark station in 2020 and Europapark station has been given an extra platform with platform roof, lift and stairs. A reversing facility has also been built, so that trains can continue to Europapark instead of Assen during future work at Groningen station.
